Scouts and Cubs camp at JOTA/JOTI

Jamboree On The Air was held at Narrabeen Lakes over the weekend where the Scouts got to talk on amateur radio and over the Internet with other scouts from around the world as well as get out on the lake in canoes and play other games round camp.  Cubs joined in on Saturday afternoon with a few staying the night and getting to watch The Hobbit.

Cub Fun Day

The Cubs travelled to Luna Park. Turned out to be an excellent day. They completed part of their Travellers Badge, all of the ‘Thrilling Rides’ badge (which has yet to be approved).

Escape & Evade

A patrol of 8 scouts joined 19 other patrols for an overnight hike from Harbord to Mona Vale mainly along the coastal track and beaches.  Luckily the weather was good given someone forgot to check that each tent had a fly beforehand![nggallery id=24]

Find it, Log it

The Cubs had a great day at Manly Dam adding to their navigation skills and learning about Geocaching as part of the Scout Year of Geocaching.
It was an excellent day, particularly for mid August, you needed hats and sunscreen (almost).

After finding 3 geocaches, still keen to find more!

Water over the waterfall as well!

The Cubs added about 6 caches to their list for The Great Scouts Geocaching Competition!

Draw and Fire

The scouts split up this week with Panthers & Redbacks showing off their artistic skills in a cartooning workshop and Wallabies and Scorpions building ballistas to fire at each other in the hall!

Scouts MasterChef

Scouts showed off their culinary skills. Each patrol had to prepare two dishes of their choice for the leaders to judge – shopping, setting up camping stoves, cooking and cleaning up all in two hours! The food was yummy with freshly made pesto, guacamole and even ice cream! Leaders favourite was the prawn fried rice. Scouts favourite had to be the chocolate fondue which was dived on by everyone.[nggallery id=21]

ScoutHike

Last weekend two of our scout patrols took part in the annual ScoutHike camp along with about 1300 other scouts and leaders. They competed against 173 patrols navigating their way independently through the forest between activity bases scoring points along the way.

Photos show our scouts visiting the Captain Blackbeard base run by Bayview Scout Troop.  There they became pirates, avoided crocodiles to board ship, raised the Jolly Roger, walked the plank and jumped blind into shark infested water. If they survived that and the sword fight they searched for gold (edible gold) in the spooky graveyard and fired water cannon to celebrate their success.
