News! Fairlight/Manly is starting up a Venturer Troop!
Building a new Venturer Troop is a great chance for Fairlight/Manly Scout Troop to provide the benefits and adventures of Scouting to the older 15-18 year age group.
What are Venturers? Venturers are male and female Scouts between the ages of 14 and 18.
What dio Venturers do? Venturers take the skills and experience they gained n Scouts and apply at much higher level. Venturers are expected to manage the Troop, themselves and the activities that they want to do.
Who can join? As we are starting up a new Troop, we want to lead off with as many young adults with Scouting experience as possible. Anyone between the ages of 14-18 with Scouting background, outward bound experience; bushwalking, kayaking; abseiling; canyoning, is welcome to apply.
When do they meet? The parade night will be Friday, 7:00pm to 9:00pm. First night will be in Feb 2015. Currently we are meeting with the Seaforth Venturers until we get enough numbers to go out on our own.
Who do I contact? Venturer Scout Leader, Leigh Costin, lcostin@bigpond.com

Ascent of Mt Solitary
Ten scouts set off for an overnight hike up to Mt Solitary in the Blue Mountains. The going was tough especially lugging heavy packs while scrambling up boulders on the exposed ridge as we made our way to the top.We found a great spot to camp near Chinaman’s creek which had a few pools of water to refill our drinking bottles. Ryan and Eli still had enough energy to make the detour on the way back to Ruined Castle before the final slog up the Golden Stairs.
